Digital Learning

Prepared for the future

We have a balanced approach to technology here at Salcombe Prep, using it to supplement and extend traditional teaching methods but always with an eye on children’s ‘screen time’ and supported with lessons on internet safety.

Technology allows us to deliver great teaching and learning, but as a platform for collaboration and productivity. We have witnessed first-hand the positive impact it can have, putting pupils at the heart of their learning by increasing engagement, developing intrinsic interpersonal skills and preparing them for the future of adult life.

Enhancing Education: Digital Learning for Every Pupil

We’ve taken the next steps in our digital learning journey by issuing pupils in Year 3 and above with individual laptops, know to our pupils as their 1-to-1 devices!

Additionally, for our younger learners, each child from Reception to Year 2 is assigned their own school iPad, kept on-site for learning purposes. These personalised devices are used as integral tools to enhance and transform the pupils learning experience, fostering growth and success in what is a rapidly evolving world.

Greater Ownership of Learning

In a 1-to-1 environment, the learning shifts from the traditional instructor-led model to become more pupil-centred.

Access to online learning tools gives the pupil options that naturally engage them and enables them to take ownership of how their learning goals are achieved. Pupils experience greater independence, greater task completion and a more efficient workflow with the ability to electronically manage and share tasks in a single environment.

1-to-1 Devices Foster Collaborative Skills

Pupils can greatly benefit from 1-to-1 devices in developing their collaboration skills. These tools support essential communication and joint reasoning required for effective teamwork.

By sharing a digital workspace, pupils can collaboratively create and edit content, refine each other’s contributions, and share information and ideas. Teachers enhance this process by allowing pupils to choose their communication tools and encouraging them to work together to ‘show what they know’.

Tailored Learning with 1-to-1 Technology

1-to-1 technology makes it possible for pupils to receive differentiated content and assignments, using a variety of methods and tools.

For example, pupils can pause videos and review media content multiple times. In addition to video, electronic and online resources can be selected and shared with pupils, ensuring that the content is being delivered and standards are being met, in a way that can be best understood by all pupils.

AI Integration for Personalised Education

Introducing children to AI platforms, such as Century Tech and Atom, is an integral part of our digital learning program.

These platforms are seamlessly integrated to enhance learning experiences, providing personalised journeys while teachers oversee the process. Nuggets, across the platforms, are carefully curated sets of challenges designed to both support and challenge pupils' abilities, ensuring a well-rounded educational approach that complements traditional methods.
