Mastering the 11+
Starting from Year 1, our 11+ preparation programme builds steadily, ensuring pupils are confident and fully equipped by Year 6. We instil the ability to apply knowledge effectively in both exam papers and interviews. Through termly assessments from Year 3 onwards in the core subjects and annual online evaluations, pupils refine their exam techniques.
Our focus is to support each individual child and their families through the process, placing the pupil's wellbeing at the heart of our approach to both reduce stress levels and ensure success.

Preparing for 11+
At Salcombe Prep, we diligently prepare pupils for transition to diverse senior schools. Our curriculum reinforces essential skills, ensuring our pupils feel well-equipped for the 11+ process, as evidenced in their outcomes. We adopt a calm, holistic approach that avoids last-minute cramming. Year by year, our curriculum evolves strategically to optimize learning potential, offering both challenge and stimulation.
Year 1
Through the study of Modern Foreign Languages, pupils gain a global perspective, laying strong foundations for additional language learnings.
Year 2
Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning are integrated into the curriculum to provide a structured approach to exam preparation.
Year 3
Here, the ISEB curriculum is seamlessly integrated into daily learning, enriching depth and breadth of knowledge through specialist subjects. Drama classes are introduced to instil confidence, while philosophy sessions foster critical thinking and self-expression.
Year 4
Throughout Year 4, it is essential to embed and reinforce key skills crucial for a successful transition to the 11+ academic level. This journey includes an initial parent meeting with the Senior Leadership Team to explore and discuss senior school choices.
Year 5
Enhanced 11+ preparation with specialised support offered at our after-school 11+ Club, including practice papers and education in exam techniques. Additionally, we continue to provide invaluable parental guidance and support to ensure a well-rounded preparation experience.
Year 6
Our 11+ Club continues, providing ongoing support, coupled with regular practice papers in Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, Maths and English, seamlessly integrated into both classroom activities and homework assignments.
